Типы гидравлических испытательных стендов
Compare hydraulic test bench types by test purpose, component, automation, portability, and energy handling to define the configuration your work requires.
Hydraulic test benches are commonly described by their test purpose, the component they handle, and the way they control and record a test. Functional, performance, endurance, production, pressure, and leakage testing are useful purpose labels. Manual, automatic, portable, and regenerative describe other aspects of the equipment.
These labels can overlap. An automatic pump bench may perform both production checks and performance measurements, while an endurance station may include periodic leakage checks. There is no benefit in forcing every machine into one exclusive category. This guide explains the main distinctions and shows how to combine them into a clear equipment description before moving to detailed capacity, instrumentation, and acceptance requirements for a particular project.

Use several classification dimensions
Start with the question the test must answer, then add the remaining dimensions. The following is a practical editorial framework, not an official universal classification standard.
| Dimension | Примеры | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Test purpose | Function, performance, endurance, leakage | What evidence is sought |
| Device under test | Cylinder, valve, pump, motor, assembly | Which interfaces and loads are needed |
| Метод управления | Manual, semi-automatic, automatic | How the sequence is operated |
| Location and integration | Portable equipment, workshop bench, production cell | Where testing occurs and what resources surround it |
| Energy handling | Dissipative loading, suitable recovery arrangement | Where test energy goes |
Manufacturer terminology varies. LF Technologies, for example, describes performance, endurance, and production-related purposes. The name on a quotation should therefore be followed by a defined task list. Manufacturer purpose descriptions.
The broader definition in hydraulic test bench basics helps distinguish a testing system from a hydraulic supply that has no adequate measurement or acceptance function.

Functional and performance test benches
A functional test asks whether a specified operation occurs under defined conditions. Examples include a cylinder completing an agreed motion, a valve changing state, or an assembly responding to a command. The result must still name the conditions; “works correctly” without a defined task is too vague.
A performance test measures how the DUT behaves over selected operating points. It may produce a flow-pressure curve, a torque-speed relationship, or a command-response map. Measurement range, uncertainty, stabilization, and the chosen boundary become central to interpreting the result.
Neither label automatically determines complexity. A limited functional check can be highly automated. A carefully controlled laboratory measurement can involve manual setup and substantial engineering interpretation.
When requesting a bench, ask whether the objective is to confirm a known acceptance requirement or characterize behavior that has not yet been established. Define whether transient behavior is included or only steady conditions. The sequence in how a hydraulic test bench works applies to both, but their instruments and procedures may differ.
Production and endurance test benches
Production testing emphasizes repeated assessment of manufactured or assembled units. Fixture changeover, identification, sequence consistency, throughput, and traceable records are often important. The tests selected must relate to product requirements; a short cycle is useful only if it still gathers the necessary evidence.
Endurance testing exposes a DUT to a defined repeated duty and observes its condition or performance over that program. The important specification is the load history, fluid and temperature conditions, timing, measurements, and failure or completion criteria.
A cycle count alone is not a service-life prediction. Changing load level, temperature, frequency, or reversal conditions may change the mechanisms being tested. Claims about accelerated testing or field-life equivalence need a justified method and technical review.
Production and endurance are also compatible with the earlier purpose labels. A production station can include functional and leakage checks; an endurance station can pause for performance measurements. Test Industry's pump and motor offerings illustrate this distinction between repeated-unit production work and repeated-cycle duty. Test Industry applications.
Keep anomalous and interrupted runs visible. The approach in inconsistent test results helps separate DUT behavior from fixture, control, or measurement problems.

Pressure, leak, impulse, and burst test stations
These names describe different questions and should not be used interchangeably.
| Task | Question being addressed | Boundary to define |
|---|---|---|
| Proof or specified pressure test | Does the assembly withstand an agreed condition? | Pressure history, duration, medium and acceptance basis |
| Leakage test | Is leakage within the specified criterion? | Measurement method, stabilization, pressure and temperature |
| Impulse test | How does the item respond to repeated pressure changes? | Waveform, frequency, conditions and completion criteria |
| Burst test | At what condition does a defined failure occur? | Failure definition, controlled loading and containment |
A burst test is intended to investigate a failure limit and may be destructive. It is not a substitute name for routine proof testing. A pressure station built for one purpose should not be assumed suitable for another simply because the gauge has a sufficient scale.
Also distinguish a bench testing hydraulic-fluid-power components from a hydraulically pressurized test of another product. Some pressure tests use water or other specified media. Equipment compatibility must be checked for the actual medium; an oil-service tester is not automatically suitable.
HSE GS4 explains that pressure-testing arrangements must account for stored energy, test medium, connectors, and segregation. Those considerations require a task-specific system of work and suitable protection, not a generic procedure copied from a different bench. HSE pressure-testing guidance.
The component-specific discussion in cylinder, valve, pump, and motor testing explains why a casing integrity result differs from full functional or performance acceptance.

Component-specific and modular benches
A dedicated bench is configured around a narrower family of DUTs or tests. It can simplify fixtures and repeatable setup when the work is stable. Its useful scope is limited by that design.
A modular bench uses approved combinations of fixtures, load devices, adapters, controls, and measurement modules to cover a broader range. Flexibility comes with configuration management and changeover work. Each module combination needs a defined capability and procedure.
A pump station requires shaft drive and hydraulic loading; a motor station requires hydraulic input and a suitable shaft load. A cylinder needs motion space and a reaction structure. A controlled valve may require matching electrical interfaces. These are meaningful differences even when the reservoir and software are shared.
Ask what is included with the base equipment and what requires an option. Also identify cleaning and fluid compatibility between component families. “Universal” is a claim to verify row by row against the application list.
Manual, semi-automatic, and automatic benches
A manual bench relies on an operator to carry out defined adjustments and observations. It can be suitable for varied diagnostic work, provided the procedure, instruments, and recording discipline meet the task.
A semi-automatic arrangement may guide setup and execute selected measurement stages. An automatic arrangement may run an approved sequence, acquire data, and apply programmed acceptance rules after the necessary setup. Actual supplier definitions should be confirmed.
Automation can improve consistency in repetitive actions, but it cannot correct a wrong sensor range, unsuitable fixture, invalid limit, or incorrect recipe. A polished report can repeat the same underlying error very efficiently.
Specify how recipes are approved and revised, how the selected hardware is verified, and how interrupted tests are handled. Decide who may change limits and whether raw data must be retained. These questions are more useful than asking only whether the bench includes a computer. Include them in choosing a hydraulic test bench.
Portable equipment and fixed test cells
Portable hydraulic testers can provide valuable measurements within an existing machine circuit. Webtec's manual describes flow, pressure, and temperature measurements and model-dependent loading functions. It also specifies fluid and operating limitations. These are capabilities to check for the selected instrument, not a universal portable-equipment specification. Webtec tester manual.
A portable measuring unit usually relies on the surrounding machine or another source for hydraulic energy and some test conditions. It does not automatically provide a guarded cylinder fixture, a motor dynamometer, controlled fluid conditioning, or every measurement needed for a standalone acceptance test.
A fixed workshop bench or enclosed cell can integrate those resources. It still needs the correct operating range and interfaces. Floor-standing size alone says nothing about measurement quality.
For either format, check the allowable simultaneous conditions using test bench pressure, flow, and power. Installation and testing must follow the applicable equipment instructions and an approved plan.
Energy handling and three illustrative selections
In a dissipative loading arrangement, much of the applied test power becomes heat that must be managed. A suitable energy-recovery arrangement redirects some energy to another useful part of the system or an approved electrical path. Recovery is an architecture choice, not a separate test objective.
Test Industry notes energy recovery where applicable in endurance equipment. The recoverable fraction depends on the design and duty, so no universal saving percentage is assumed here. Energy-recovery application context.
Consider three original planning examples:
- A repair shop checking varied cylinders may describe a workshop functional and leakage bench with approved interchangeable fixtures and operator-guided setup.
- A factory checking one pump family may describe an automatic production station with identity control, defined operating points, and a traceable report for each unit.
- A development team studying motor durability may describe an endurance cell with an engineered shaft load, controlled conditions, scheduled performance checks, and a reviewed energy-handling arrangement.
These descriptions identify the intended job without claiming a particular manufacturer's equipment can perform it. Each still requires capacity calculations, measurement requirements, utilities, protection, and acceptance demonstrations.
The most useful final description names purpose, DUT, conditions, required evidence, configuration, and exclusions. It can then become the starting point for a detailed request for quotation.

Часто задаваемые вопросы
Which type is best? The appropriate configuration is the one that covers the defined test and evidence requirements within the project constraints. There is no single best type for every workshop or laboratory.
Всегда ли автоматический станок обеспечивает более высокую точность? No. Accuracy depends on the measurement system and method; automation concerns how the process is executed.
Can a production bench run endurance tests? Only if its hardware, controls, thermal duty, monitoring, and approved procedure support that work.
Does a high-pressure rating imply burst-test capability? No. Intended failure testing requires a suitable complete arrangement, including containment and a reviewed procedure. Confirm the actual approved scope.
